1 AN ACT concerning swimming facilities.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Swimming Facility Act is amended by
5 changing Section 9 and adding Section 9.1 as follows:
6 (210 ILCS 125/9) (from Ch. 111 1/2, par. 1209)
7 Sec. 9. Inspections; written notice. Subject to
8 constitutional limitations, the Department, by its
9 representatives, after proper identification, is authorized
10 and shall have the power to enter at reasonable times upon
11 private or public property for the purpose of inspecting and
12 investigating conditions relating to the enforcement of this
13 Act and regulations issued hereunder. The Department must
14 inspect all electrical systems and fixtures associated with a
15 swimming pool before an original license or a renewal of a
16 license for the swimming pool may be issued under this Act.
17 Written notice of all violations shall be given to the
18 owners, operators and licensees of swimming facilities.

21 Sec. 9.1. Underwater lighting systems.
22 (a) All underwater lighting systems operating at more
23 than 15 volts supplied from a branch circuit either directly
24 or by way of a transformer must be designed and installed in
25 a swimming pool so that there is no shock hazard with any
26 likely combination of fault conditions during normal use, and
27 must comply with the requirements of this Section.
28 (b) An approved ground-fault circuit interrupter must be
29 installed in the branch circuit that supplies all fixtures
30 operating at more than 15 volts.

1 (c) Only underwater lighting fixtures approved by the
2 Department may be used.
3 (d) No lighting fixtures may be installed for operation
4 at more than 150 volts between conductors.
5 (e) Any swimming pool that does not meet the
6 requirements specified in this Section shall be retrofitted
7 to comply with the requirements of this Section within 120
8 days after the effective date of this amendatory Act.
