1 AN ACT concerning disabled persons.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Disabled Persons Rehabilitation Act is
5 amended by changing Section 11 as follows:
6 (20 ILCS 2405/11) (from Ch. 23, par. 3442)
7 Sec. 11. Illinois Center for Rehabilitation and
8 Education. The Department shall operate and maintain the
9 Illinois Center for Rehabilitation and Education for the care
10 and education of educable children with one or more physical
11 disabilities and provide in connection therewith nursing and
12 medical care and academic, occupational, and related training
13 to such children.
14 Any Illinois resident under the age of 21 years who is
15 educable but has such a severe physical disability as a
16 result of cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida,
17 or other cause that he is unable to take advantage of the
18 system of free education in the State of Illinois, may be
19 admitted to the Center or be entitled to services and
20 facilities provided hereunder. Illinois residents with
21 severe physical disabilities under 24 years of age who (i)
22 need independent living skills training or daily living
23 skills training and (ii) are participating in the vocational
24 rehabilitation program or attending a post-secondary
25 educational program or both may also be admitted to the
26 Center and be entitled to services and facilities. Children
27 shall be admitted to the Center or be eligible for such
28 services and facilities only after diagnosis according to
29 procedures approved for this purpose. The Department may
30 avail itself of the services of other public or private
31 agencies in determining any child's eligibility for admission

1 to, or discharge from, the Center.
2 The Department may call upon other agencies of the State
3 for such services as they are equipped to render in the care
4 of children with one or more physical disabilities, and such
5 agencies are instructed to render those services which are
6 consistent with their legal and administrative
7 responsibilities.
