1 AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 2271
2 AMENDMENT NO. . Amend House Bill 2271 on page 2, by
3 replacing lines 13 and 14 with "diagnosis of a specific
4 pathology. "Massage" does not include those acts of physical
5 therapy or therapeutic or corrective measures that are
6 outside the scope of massage therapy practice as defined in
7 this Section."; and
8 on page 5, by replacing lines 22 through 33 with the
9 following:
10 "(e) Nothing in this Act prohibits practitioners that do
11 not involve intentional soft tissue manipulation, including
12 but not limited to Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais, Reike,
13 and Therapeutic Touch, from practicing.
14 (f) Practitioners of certain servicemarked bodywork
15 approaches that do involve intentional soft tissue
16 manipulation, including but not limited to Rolfing, Trager
17 Approach, Polarity Therapy, and Orthobionomy, are exempt from
18 this Act if they are approved by their governing body based
19 on a minimum level of training, demonstration of competency,
20 and adherence to ethical standards.
21 (g) Practitioners of Asian bodywork approaches are
22 exempt from this Act if they are members of the American
23 Organization of Bodywork Therapies of Asia as certified

1 practitioners or if they are approved by an Asian bodywork
2 organization based on a minimum level of training,
3 demonstration of competency, and adherence to ethical
4 standards set by their governing body.
5 (h) Practitioners of other forms of bodywork who
6 restrict manipulation of soft tissue to the feet, hands, and
7 ears, and who do not have the client disrobe, such as
8 reflexology, are exempt from this Act.
9 (i) Nothing in this Act applies to massage therapists
10 from other states or countries when providing educational
11 programs or services for a period not exceeding 30 days
12 within a calendar year.
13 (j) Nothing in this Act prohibits a person from treating
14 ailments by spiritual means through prayer alone in
15 accordance with the tenets and practices of a recognized
16 church or religious denomination."; and
17 on page 6 by deleting lines 1 through 11.
