1 AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 1970
2 AMENDMENT NO. . Amend House Bill 1970 on page 1,
3 line 13, after "consumer", by inserting "and the
4 interpreter"; and
5 on page 1, line 14, by changing "form" to "forms"; and
6 on page 1, by deleting line 22; and
7 on page 1, between lines 23 and 24, by inserting the
8 following:
9 "I, (name of interpreter), acted as interpreter
10 during this retail transaction or these negotiations.
11 The obligations of the contract or other written
12 agreement were explained to (name of consumer) in the
13 consumer's native language. I understand the contract or
14 other written agreement.
15 (signature of interpreter)
16 (relationship of interpreter to consumer)"; and
17 on page 1, line 30, before the colon, by inserting "in the
18 consumer's native language (except as provided in subsection
19 (c))"; and
20 on page 2, by replacing lines 2 and 3 with the following:
21 "voluntarily choose to have the retailer act as my

1 interpreter during the negotiations."; and
2 on page 2, between lines 7 and 8, by inserting the following:
3 "(c) If a language that cannot be written is used in the
4 retail transaction or in negotiations related to a retail
5 transaction, then the form set forth in subsection (b) shall
6 be in the English language."; and
7 on page 2, line 8, by changing "(c)" to "(d)"; and
8 on page 2, line 19, by changing "(d)" to "(e)".
