1 AN ACT in relation to groundwater.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Department of Natural Resources Act is
5 amended by adding Section 1-30 as follows:
6 (20 ILCS 805/1-30 new)
7 Sec. 1-30. Aquifer study. The Department must conduct a
8 study to (i) develop an understanding of the geology of each
9 aquifer in the State; (ii) determine the groundwater flow
10 through the geologic units and the interaction of the
11 groundwater with surface waters; (iii) analyze current
12 groundwater withdrawals; and (iv) determine the chemistry of
13 the geologic units and the groundwater in those units. Based
14 upon information obtained from the study, the Department must
15 develop geologic and groundwater flow models for each
16 underground aquifer in the State that show the impact of
17 adding future wells or of future groundwater withdrawals.
18 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
19 becoming law.
