1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends
4 of John F. Hudetz, who passed away on December 13, 2000; and
5 WHEREAS, John F. Hudetz was the second mayor of
6 Warrenville and one of the keys players who helped the city
7 incorporate in 1967; and
8 WHEREAS, John F. Hudetz was born on January 25, 1920 in
9 Chicago, Illinois; he had been a resident of Warrenville for
10 more than 50 years; and
11 WHEREAS, John F. Hudetz was a printer who in 1961 founded
12 John F. Hudetz and Sons in Chicago, the company, now based in
13 Naperville and called Solar Communications, is one of the
14 country's largest printers of direct mail; and
15 WHEREAS, John F. Hudetz was elected to a four year term
16 as mayor in 1976, having first served as an alderman, a
17 position he returned to after his mayoral term; his stamina
18 and force of personality are credited with the fight to
19 incorporate the once rural community; as an alderman in 1986,
20 he was chairman of the Finance Committee, where he championed
21 the creation of a tax increment finance district that opened
22 the way for Cantera, a mixed-use development that now is a
23 major source of income for the city; he also led efforts to
24 improve Cerny Park, a six-acre park named for its donors and
25 the first park in Warrenville; and
26 WHEREAS, John F, Hudetz served in the United States Coast
27 Guard during World War II, participating in the Normandy
28 Invasion; his service included ferrying troops through the
29 mine-laden waters of Omaha Beach and returning to England
30 with wounded service men and prisoners of war; and
31 WHEREAS, John F. Hudetz contributed much of his time to

1 community, church and civic activities; he was actively
2 involved in his parish of St. Irene Church, the Lions Club,
3 the Knights of Columbus, and the VFW; he liked to spend time
4 at his residence at the Christine Center in Wisconsin and at
5 his golf/recreational winter home on Fripp Island in South
6 Carolina; and
7 WHEREAS, John F. Hudetz had a passion for opera and art;
8 he enjoyed European travel especially to Slovakia, the
9 birthplace of his parents; Mr. Hudetz' love of ancestry
10 involved him in founding the Slovak American Society of the
11 Midwest; in 1999 he was the recipient of the Chicago Slovak
12 Consular Award in recognition of all he has accomplished for
13 Slovaks and Americans; the Slovak American Society also named
14 him its Slovak American of the year in 1999; and
15 WHEREAS, The passing of John F. Hudetz will be deeply
16 felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife of 56
17 years, Gwendolyn, his children, John A. (wife, Elizabeth),
18 Joseph (wife, Patricia), Frank (wife, Carolyn), Leo (wife,
19 Janice), Mary (husband, William) Marzano, Michael (wife,
20 Alexandra), Peter (wife, Cindy), Margaret (husband, Michael)
21 Webb, Paul (wife, Carrie), Benjamin (wife, Sonia), and Robert
22 (wife, Robin), his 37 grandchildren, his 3
23 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Wilma Ptak, Helen
24 O'Connell, and Elsie Cholewa; and his numerous nieces and
25 nephews; therefore, be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
27 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
28 all who knew him, the death of John F. Hudetz of Warrenville,
29 Illinois; and be it further
30 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
31 presented to the family of John F. Hudetz.
