1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends
4 of Phyllis E. Warner, who passed away on October 26, 2000;
5 and
6 WHEREAS, Phyllis E. Warner was born on August 30, 1913 in
7 Elgin to Albert and Gladys Schneff; and
8 WHEREAS, Phyllis E. Warner was a journalist for 32 years,
9 spending 22 years as a reporter and editor in the newsprint
10 media and 10 years as a radio news director and news
11 broadcaster; and
12 WHEREAS, Phyllis E. Warner began working for her hometown
13 newspaper, the Elgin Courier, as a freshman in high school
14 were she was a "newsboy" covering plays, concerts and women's
15 benefit affairs; and
16 WHEREAS, Phyllis E. Warner's admiration of the arts
17 steered her toward working in New York and three years as a
18 student in the drama department at Yale University, were she
19 participated with the Yale players in summer stock; and
20 WHEREAS, Phyllis E. Warner returned to the Elgin Courier
21 in 1942 as a reporter; from 1967 through 1977 she penned the
22 name "Our Towns" for the St. Charles Chronicle's social
23 pages, which she edited and produced; and
24 WHEREAS, Phyllis E. Warner was married to the late Fred
25 Warner whom she had met at the Elgin Courier News in 1950;
26 and
27 WHEREAS, Phyllis E. Warner was a member of the St,
28 Charles Episcopal Church, PEO Chapter FE in Geneva, and in
29 1969 served as president of the St. Charles Pottawatomie
30 Garden Club; and

1 WHEREAS, The passing of Phyllis E. Warner will be deeply
2 felt by all who knew and loved her, especially her loving
3 sister, Lorraine Schlager; and several nieces and nephews;
4 therefore, be it
5 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
6 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
7 all who knew her, the death of Phyllis E. Warner of Aurora,
8 Illinois; and be it further
9 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 presented to the family of Phyllis E. Warner.
