1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn
3 of the death of Spiros "Steve" Kapas of Plano on Sunday,
4 February 20, 2000; and
5 WHEREAS, He was born in Greece on November 29, 1899, the
6 son of John and Polito Kapernekas; he immigrated to the
7 United States, working hard, saving his money, and pursuing
8 the American dream of owning his own business; and
9 WHEREAS, Since 1922, he operated restaurants in Ottawa
10 and Chicago and the Town and Country Restaurant in Plano; and
11 WHEREAS, Steve Kapas and the former Helen Malady were
12 united in marriage in 1925; she passed away in 1976; and
13 WHEREAS, Mr. Kapas loved to travel, living half of the
14 year in Plano and the other half of the year in Greece; he
15 was a former member of the Order of the Ahepa and was a
16 lifetime member of the Oddfellows; and
17 WHEREAS, Mr. Kappas was preceded in death by his parents,
18 his wife, one brother, and two sisters; and
19 WHEREAS, The passing of Steve Kapas will be deeply felt
20 by family and friends, especially his son and
21 daughter-in-law, George and Pauline Kapas; his grandchildren,
22 Steve Kapas, Sue Kapas, and Helen Erdman; his nephew, Steve
23 Kapernekas; his niece, Georganne Kappas; and his
24 great-nephew, Brian Kapernekas; therefore, be it
25 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
26 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow
27 and regret the death of Spiros "Steve" Kapas and extend our
28 sincere condolences to his family and friends; and be it
29 further
30 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
