1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn
3 of the recent death of Blanche Janes of Palos Park; and
4 WHEREAS, She was born Blanche Slenecko on May 15, 1921;
5 she married World War II Lieutenant Lester L. Janes in 1943;
6 and
7 WHEREAS, In 1956, Blanche and Lester Janes adopted
8 Lester, who currently works with computers, and in 1960, they
9 adopted Jeffrey, who currently teaches math and science at
10 Andrew High School; and
11 WHEREAS, In 1970, Blanche Janes was widowed and continued
12 to raise the two children on her own; in 1979, she completed
13 schooling as a phlebotomist; and
14 WHEREAS, Blanche Janes has been called "the Godmother of
15 Palos Park", she was president of the Palos Park Woman's Club
16 from 1992 to 1994; for many years, she was in charge of the
17 scholarship fund for the club helping as many as 230
18 students; and
19 WHEREAS, Her children remember her as a woman with a
20 sense of fairness and values; like Mike Royko, she "called
21 them as she saw them"; she proudly carried her south side
22 Chicago ethnic Czech community with her; and
23 WHEREAS, Blanche Janes lived two lives, the first as wife
24 and mother, and the second devoted to her community through
25 her activities in the Village and the Palos Park Woman's
26 Club; and
27 WHEREAS, The passing of Blanche Janes will be deeply felt
28 by her family and friends, especially her sons and
29 daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Leslie and Lester and Judy; and
30 her grandchildren, Michael, Julia, Emily, and Spencer;

1 therefore, be it
2 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
3 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow
4 and regret the death of Blanche Janes and extend our sincere
5 condolences to her family and friends; and be it further
6 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
7 presented to her sons, Jeffrey Janes and Lester Janes, and
8 also to the Palos Park Woman's Club.
