1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn
3 of the death of John Wodetzki of Lincoln on Monday, June 28,
4 1999; and
5 WHEREAS, He was born in Lincoln on September 7, 1931, the
6 son of John P. and Naomi Oberhellman Wodetzki; he married
7 Luella "Peggy" Kennedy on September 11, 1955 in Lincoln; and
8 WHEREAS, He attended Lincoln College and graduated from
9 the Northwestern University Traffic Institute in Chicago; and
10 WHEREAS, He served as Lincoln Police Chief from 1969 to
11 1979; he retired in 1979 after twenty-five years on the
12 force; he was an investigator for the Illinois Fugitive
13 Apprehension Unit from 1981 to 1991; and he operated Circle J
14 Kennels; and
15 WHEREAS, He was named the Lincoln Courier's Citizen of
16 the Month in May of 1974, Police Chief of the Year by the
17 Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police in 1977, and 40 et 8
18 Law Officer of the Year; and
19 WHEREAS, A United States Marine Corps veteran of the
20 Korean War, he was a member of the Lincoln American Legion
21 Post No. 263, Logan County Voiture 985 of the 40 et 8; he was
22 affiliated with the International Association of Police
23 Chiefs, the Illinois Police Association, the Tri-Police
24 Association, and the Illinois Law Enforcement Commission; and
25 WHEREAS, He was a member of the Geneva Lakes Kennel Club;
26 the American Brittany Club; the National Rifle Association;
27 Ducks Unlimited; Quail Unlimited; the Generals Club; Lincoln
28 Lodge No. 210 AF & AM; Lincoln Elks Lodge No. 914; Royal Arch
29 Masons, Knights Templar; the Logan County Shrine Club, Ansar
30 Shrine; the Logan County Park and Trails Foundation; the
31 American Quarter Horse Association; and the Logan County Farm

1 Bureau; and
2 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by his family
3 and friends, especially his wife, Peggy, and his brother,
4 Edward; therefore, be it
5 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
6 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow
7 and regret the death of John Wodetzki and extend our sincere
8 condolences to his family and friends; and be it further
9 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 presented to Peggy Wodetzki.
