 1        AN  ACT  to  amended  the  Public Utilities Act by adding
 2    Section 13-517.

 3        Be it enacted by the People of  the  State  of  Illinois,
 4    represented in the General Assembly:

 5        Section  5. The Public Utilities Act is amended by adding
 6    Section 13-517 as follows:

 7        (220 ILCS 5/13-517 new)
 8        Sec. 13-517. Limitation on area code  implementation.  No
 9    new  area  code which will overlay or divide an existing area
10    code  shall  be  implemented  until  90%  of  the   available
11    telephone  numbers  in the existing area code are assigned to
12    consumers.

13        Section 99.  This Act shall  take  effect  upon  becoming
14    law.
