1 AN ACT to amend the Counties Code by changing Section
2 5-37011.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Counties Code is amended by changing
6 Section 5-37011 as follows:
7 (55 ILCS 5/5-37011) (from Ch. 34, par. 5-37011)
8 Sec. 5-37011. Hospital security police force. The board
9 of commissioners, subject to the applicable merit system
10 rules, may establish and maintain a Hospital Security Police
11 Force and may define and prescribe the all such peace
12 officers' duties and compensation of its police officers.
13 Every security police officer appointed by the board to the
14 Hospital such Security Police Force, as the same shall be
15 from time to time hereafter constituted, shall have and is
16 hereby vested with police powers, and is hereby authorized to
17 act as a conservator of the peace primarily within and upon
18 any and all hospital facilities operated and hospital
19 premises controlled by the such board. These police officers
20 , and shall have the power to make arrests or cause to be
21 arrested, with or without process, any person who breaches
22 breaks the peace, or may be found violating any State
23 statutes or city or county ordinances within or upon such
24 facilities or premises.
25 The board may establish reasonable eligibility
26 requirements for appointment as a police officer to such
27 Security Police Force relating to residence, health, habits,
28 and moral character. However, No person may be appointed as
29 a police officer hereunder unless that person is at least 21
30 years of age. No person may be appointed to or be retained
31 as a police officer in the Hospital Security Police Force

1 unless that person is of good character, is and not a
2 habitual drunkard or, gambler, and has not been or a person
3 convicted of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude.
4 All police officers are Security Police Force personnel
5 authorized to carry weapons within or upon hospital
6 facilities or premises while on-duty shall receive a course
7 of training in the legal and practical use of such weapons as
8 is required of a police officer under "An Act in relation to
9 firearms training for peace officers", approved August 29,
10 1975, as amended, and must all such Security Police Force
11 personnel shall also have received the training and
12 certification required by the "Illinois Police Training Act"
13 as now or hereafter amended. Security Police Force personnel
14 shall not carry weapons while off-duty and all weapons shall
15 be checked and secured on the hospital premises while such
16 personnel remain off-duty.
