1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the House were saddened to learn
3 of the death of Lieutenant James E. Spallina, Sr. of the Oak
4 Lawn Police Department on Sunday, February 27, 2000; and
5 WHEREAS, Born and raised in Chicago, Lt. Spallina
6 attended Bogan High School and enlisted in the United States
7 Marine Corps in 1971; he served aboard an aircraft carrier
8 for two years during the Vietnam War; and
9 WHEREAS, After returning from the service, he worked for
10 Jewel Food Stores before joining the Oak Lawn Police
11 Department as a police officer; and
12 WHEREAS, James Spallina, who was known for his friendly
13 manner, was promoted to lieutenant last year; he was the
14 department's public information officer and an adviser to the
15 cadet program; he was in charge of the department's Drug
16 Abuse Resistance Education program and served as its first
17 DARE officer; and
18 WHEREAS, He coached soccer on his days off and also
19 enjoyed fishing; and
20 WHEREAS, The passing of Lieutenant James E. Spallina,
21 Sr., will be felt by his family and friends, especially by
22 his former wife, Bobbie; his sons, Jim and Joey; his father,
23 Elroy; his brothers, Don and Steve; and his sister, Janet
24 Steele; therefore, be it
25 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
26 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
27 we note with sorrow and regret the death of Lieutenant James
28 E. Spallina, Sr., and extend our sincere condolences to his
29 family and friends; and be it further
30 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
