1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to acknowledge Betty Currie on the
4 occasion of being honored as one of Lake County's Most
5 Influential African-Americans; and
6 WHEREAS, Betty Currie graduated from Waukegan Township
7 High School; she made many personal sacrifices; and
8 WHEREAS, Betty Currie was a key aide in President
9 Clinton's campaign and later served on the 1992 transition
10 team; and
11 WHEREAS, Betty Currie is the personal secretary to the
12 President of the United States, Bill Clinton; she has served
13 the United States government for over 28 years, starting at
14 the Great Lakes Naval Base as a clerk typist and going on to
15 work for the Navy Department in Washington, D.C.; and
16 WHEREAS, She will receive this honor on Saturday,
17 February 5, 2000; and
18 WHEREAS, President Bill Clinton has thanked her for her
19 "many contributions to the life of our nation"; therefore, be
20 it
21 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
22 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
23 we declare February 5, 2000, to be Betty Currie Day in the
24 State of Illinois; and be it further
25 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
26 presented to Betty Currie.
