1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of this House are pleased and
3 honored to recognize significant achievements in the lives of
4 individuals of this great State; and
5 WHEREAS, Orville S. Kahn is celebrating his fiftieth
6 anniversary in the practice of law; a reception was held at
7 Christ Lutheran Church in Decatur; and
8 WHEREAS, Born in Joliet on May 5, 1922, Orville Kahn
9 graduated from Hyde Park High School in 1940; he was a
10 military policeman during World War II; he received degrees
11 at the University of Illinois and passed the bar exam on the
12 first try and was admitted to practice on January 9, 1950;
13 and
14 WHEREAS, Mr. Kahn worked in the office of James S.
15 Baldwin in Decatur for three years; he practiced solo in
16 Decatur including brief stints as an investigator with the
17 Office of Price Stabilization, as assistant Macon County
18 state's attorney, and as an assistant attorney general; he
19 also has been a hearing officer for the Illinois Pollution
20 Control Board for twenty years and has been a hearing officer
21 in landfill expansion matters in several counties for ten
22 years; and
23 WHEREAS, Mr. Kahn has provided free legal assistance to
24 the needy, the elderly, and the disabled; he has been a
25 volunteer in the Decatur AMBUCS, Easter Seal Society, March
26 of Dimes, United Cerebral Palsy, and Temple B'nai Abraham;
27 and
28 WHEREAS, He married Judith Gorschen of Decatur in 1947;
29 she died in 1984; they had four children, Susan, Jay, Brian,
30 and Jill, and seven grandchildren; and
31 WHEREAS, He later married Anita Hale in 1987, and between

1 them they have seven children and twelve grandchildren; and
2 WHEREAS, A courteous, gracious, and pleasant family man,
3 Orville Kahn is loved and respected by all; therefore, be it
4 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6 we congratulate Orville S. Kahn as he celebrates fifty years
7 of practicing law; and be it further
8 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9 presented to him as an expression of our respect and
10 admiration.
