1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the House were saddened to learn
3 of the death of Mayor Gerald Leon Lane of Sullivan on Friday,
4 October 8, 1999; and
5 WHEREAS, He was born in Moultrie County on January 17,
6 1926, the son of Walter and Oleta Waggoner Lane; he served in
7 the United States Air Force during World War II; and
8 WHEREAS, He graduated from Missouri Auctioneer School in
9 1954 and was an auctioneer for 45 years, he owned the
10 Citizens Abstract Company in Sullivan for 25 years, and he
11 was a licensed real estate agent; and
12 WHEREAS, Leon Lane had served as city commissioner for
13 two terms and was currently serving in his sixth term as
14 Mayor of Sullivan; and
15 WHEREAS, He was a member of the State and National
16 Auctioneer Associations, American Legion Post #68, George A.
17 Sentel Masonic Lodge 4764, and the Ansar Temple, a member of
18 the Consistory Rite Bodies in the Valley of Springfield, and
19 a member of the First Christian Church in Sullivan; and
20 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by his family
21 and friends, especially his wife, Evelyn; his sons, Jerry and
22 wife Jan and their children, Chris, Jason, Jessica, Abbey,
23 and Stephanie; Greg and wife Jennette and their children,
24 Eric and Ryan; Doug and wife Theresa and their children,
25 Blake, Brett, and Dustin; Jeff and wife Karen and their
26 children, Jenny and Kyler; and Scott and wife Selena and
27 their children, Chris and Jordan; his brother, James; and his
28 sister, Lorene Harris; therefore, be it
29 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
30 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
31 we note with sorrow and regret the death of Mayor Leon Lane

1 and extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends;
2 and be it further
3 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4 presented to his widow, Evelyn Burns Lane.
