1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn
3 of the death of Mr. William D. Baar of Riverside on Tuesday,
4 August 25, 1998; and
5 WHEREAS, Mr. Baar, a retired realtor of 45 years, was the
6 father of State Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka; and
7 WHEREAS, Mr. Baar was born in Chicago and lived and
8 worked in Berwyn for many years; he owned and operated with
9 his wife Lillian Baar Realty Company and then Baar and Baar
10 Realty for 45 years; and
11 WHEREAS, A graduate of Harrison High School of Chicago,
12 he served in the European Theater during World War II in the
13 U.S. Army Air Corps, 9th Air Force, where he helped to plan
14 bombing missions; and
15 WHEREAS, Born to Czech immigrants, he prided himself on
16 being able to speak the Czech language and for participating
17 as a 50-year member of Sokol Chicago; in his youth, he had
18 been active in the Sokol gymnastic movement; and
19 WHEREAS, He was president of the West Towns Board of
20 Realtors in 1959, a member of Ceska Beseda, and a former
21 president of the Berwyn Club; and
22 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by his family
23 and friends, especially his daughter, State Treasurer Judy
24 Baar Topinka; his grandson, Captain Joseph Baar Topinka, and
25 his wife, Christina; and his brother, Erwin, and his wife,
26 Rita; therefore, be it
27 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY
28 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow and regret
29 the death of William D. Baar and extend our sincere
30 condolences to his family and friends; and be it further

1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution will be
2 presented to the family of William D. Baar.
