1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3 to learn of the death of Leo I. Porett; and
4 WHEREAS, Leo I. Porett served in Shanghai during World
5 War II, where he trained Nationalist Chinese Naval Personnel;
6 he was a Battalion Commander of Recruit Training at the Great
7 Lakes Naval Training Center; he served as a Naval Reserve
8 Officer, assisting Rear Admiral Henry A. Renken in
9 preparation of an important Navy image study; and
10 WHEREAS, Leo I. Porett pursued ways to help improve the
11 well-being of Navy personnel; he supported the National Sea
12 Cadet program chartered by the United States Congress; he
13 served as President of the Lake County Council of the Navy
14 League and went on to serve as the National Vice President of
15 the Navy League; and
16 WHEREAS, Leo I. Porett received the United States Navy
17 Meritorious Civilian Award from the Secretary of the Navy;
18 Mr. Porett was the first Navy League member to receive the
19 League's highest civilian recognition, the Distinguished
20 Service Award; Mr. Porett was a trustee of the Rear Admiral
21 William O. Gallery Fund; and
22 WHEREAS, Leo I. Porett is survived by his children;
23 therefore, be it
24 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY
25 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his
26 family and friends, the death of Leo I. Porett; may they find
27 peace and solace in this time of need; and be it further
28 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
29 presented to the family of Leo I. Porett.
