1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 extend their sincere sympathy to the family and friends of
4 Dr. Hassan S. Haddad, who recently passed away; and
5 WHEREAS, A native of Syria, Dr. Hassan S. Haddad was born
6 on January 4, 1923; in 1960 he received his Ph.D. from the
7 University of Chicago; Dr. Haddad was a Professor at Saint
8 Xavier University for 34 years and honored as "Professor
9 Emeritus" in 1996; and
10 WHEREAS, Dr. Haddad was a professor of history and had
11 written on Arabic history, governments, and culture; he was a
12 founding member of the Board of Directors of the Institute of
13 Arab Studies and a member of the editorial board of the Arab
14 Studies Quarterly; and
15 WHEREAS, Dr. Haddad served as chairman of the History and
16 Political Science Department at Saint Xavier's from 1967 to
17 1981; from 1976 to 1980 Dr. Haddad served as a consultant for
18 building and program planning at Umm Al-Qura University in
19 Saudi Arabia; Dr. Haddad was a consultant for a feasibility
20 study for a Palestine Open University, conducted in 1980
21 under the auspices of UNESCO; and
22 WHEREAS, Dr. Haddad was the husband of Safia Haddad, and
23 the father of Walleed Haddad, and they both survive;
24 therefore, be it
25 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY
26 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his
27 family and friends, the death of Dr. Hassan S. Haddad; may
28 they find peace and comfort in this time of need; and be it
29 further
30 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
31 presented to the family of Dr. Hassan S. Haddad.
