1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The Senate was saddened to learn of the recent
3 death of Katie P. Levi of Chicago; and
4 WHEREAS, She was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi, on July
5 1, 1934, the daughter of Eddie and Mamie Payne; she attended
6 and graduated from high school in Mississippi; and
7 WHEREAS, She moved to Chicago in 1952 and attended
8 Nursing School to become a registered nurse; she later became
9 a self-made entrepreneur chef and cooked for different
10 nationalities; and
11 WHEREAS, She organized the Dante Debs Community and
12 Social Services and was an active member of the 102nd and
13 Sangamon Block Club; she helped to organize and sponsor the
14 Safari Girls, was co-founder of the Les Manniquins, and
15 collaborated with Dr. Deaton J. Brooks of Model Cities
16 regarding community issues; and
17 WHEREAS, She was very active with the Sweet Holy Spirit
18 Full Gospel Baptist Church, taking part in the Sunday School,
19 Mother's Ministry, and the Outreach Ministry; and
20 WHEREAS, Her passing will be deeply felt by her family
21 and friends, especially her husband, Joe; her daughters,
22 Carol, JoAnn, and Michelle; her son, Michael; her son-in-law,
23 Murray Malveaux; her sisters, Earlean, Bessie, and Ollie; her
24 brothers, Andrew and John Clarence; twelve grandchildren; and
25 four great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY
27 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow and regret
28 the death of Mrs. Katie P. Levi and extend our sincere
29 condolences to her family and friends; and be it further
30 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
