1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn
3 of the death of John C. Wheeler of Burr Ridge on Tuesday,
4 January 7, 1997; and
5 WHEREAS, Mr. Wheeler was Founder, Chairman, and President
6 of the State Bank of Countryside; and
7 WHEREAS, John Wheeler was born and raised in Buffalo, New
8 York; he graduated from the University of Illinois in 1960
9 and moved to Chicago, where he began a career in banking; and
10 WHEREAS, After 10 years with the Beverly Group, he
11 acquired the Ford City Bank in 1972 and served as its
12 Chairman and President for the next 10 years; and
13 WHEREAS, In 1975, Mr. Wheeler founded the State Bank of
14 Countryside and, under his leadership, the bank grew and
15 remains one of the last independent banks in the Chicago
16 area; and
17 WHEREAS, John Wheeler leaves a legacy of community
18 involvement and civic concern that will long inspire the
19 citizens of this State; he was affiliated with numerous
20 organizations and services, including Nazareth Academy, St.
21 John of the Cross Church, the LaGrange YMCA, the Darien Youth
22 Club, and the Boy Scouts of America; he was also committed to
23 the Nature Conservancy, the World Wildlife Fund, and the
24 Sierra Club; and
25 WHEREAS, He will be deeply missed by his family and
26 friends, especially his wife, Mary Alice; his sons, John and
27 William; his daughters, Terri Everson and Candace Chinick;
28 his sons-in-law, Gregg Everson and Steve Chinick; his
29 grandchildren; his sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and John
30 Johnson; and his stepmother, Dorothy Wheeler; therefore, be
31 it

1 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY
2 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow and regret
3 the death of John C. Wheeler and extend our sincere
4 condolences to his family and friends; and be it further
5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to his widow, Mary Alice Wheeler.
