1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The number of telecommunications devices in use
3 has increased exponentially during the past decade; and
4 WHEREAS, This explosion in the use of telephones, fax
5 machines, computers, and cellular phones has increased
6 economic development, promoted the sharing of knowledge, and
7 enhanced the lives of the citizens of Illinois; and
8 WHEREAS, Along with the benefits, the proliferation in
9 the use of telecommunications devices has also created
10 negative effects on the citizens of Illinois by artificially
11 creating the need for more area codes; and
12 WHEREAS, The increased need for area codes results in the
13 changing of area codes applicable to existing
14 telecommunications users; and
15 WHEREAS, The changing of the area codes applicable to
16 existing telecommunications users has imposed millions of
17 dollars of costs upon these users and creates inconveniences
18 for all telecommunications users; and
19 WHEREAS, This body is greatly concerned that
20 telecommunications users are suffering a tremendous economic
21 burden because of the changing of area codes applicable to
22 existing telecommunications users; therefore, be it
23 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
24 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
25 urge the U.S. Congress to study the practice of imposing new
26 area codes upon existing telecommunications users; and be it
27 further
28 RESOLVED, That we urge the U.S. Congress to study the
29 issue of assigning separate area codes applicable to wireless

1 telecommunications devices; and be it further
2 RESOLVED, That we urge the Federal Communications
3 Commission to study the issues presented in this resolution;
4 and be it further
5 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
6 delivered to the President pro tempore of the U.S. Senate,
7 the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, the
8 Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, and each
9 member of the Illinois congressional delegation.
