1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to extend their sincere condolences to
4 the family of Dr. Donald G. Rumer of Champaign, Illinois, who
5 passed away on June 21, 1998; and
6 WHEREAS, Donald Rumer was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on
7 December 7, 1928; his parents were Walter and Vera Krueger
8 Rumer; he married Ruth Marie Hoefel on June 8, 1950, who
9 later passed away; he married Shirley Finch Weddle on
10 November 16, 1979 in Urbana, Illinois; and
11 WHEREAS, In 1950, Dr. Rumer graduated from the medical
12 school at St. Louis University; from 1950 to 1960 he served
13 with the United States Navy; Dr. Rumer served a rotating
14 internship at the United States Naval Hospital at Bremerton,
15 Washington, and attended the United States Naval School of
16 Aviation Medicine at Pensacola, Florida; in June of 1952, he
17 was designated a Naval flight surgeon and served two years in
18 that role in the Fleet All Weather Training Unit at the
19 United States Naval Air Station at Barbers Point, Oahu,
20 Hawaii; and
21 WHEREAS, Dr. Rumer served a general surgery residency at
22 the Veterans Administration Hospital in St. Louis, an adult
23 orthopaedic surgery and fracture residency at the Veterans
24 Administration Hospital in St. Louis, and a residency in
25 children's orthopaedic surgery at Cardinal Glennon Memorial
26 Hospital for Children; and
27 WHEREAS, From 1954 to 1974, Dr. Rumer was the chief of
28 orthopaedics at Christie Clinic in Champaign, Illinois; in
29 1974, he established his private practice as an orthopaedic
30 surgeon; he served in field clinics for the Division of
31 Services for Crippled Children for several years; and

1 WHEREAS, Dr. Rumer was a member of the Champaign County
2 Medical Society, Illinois State Medical Society, American
3 Medical Association, and American Association of Physicians
4 and Surgeons; he was board certified by the American Board of
5 Orthopaedic Surgery; he was a fellow of the American Academy
6 of Orthopaedic Surgery and American College of Surgeons; he
7 was certified by the American Board of Quality Assurance and
8 Utilization Review Physicians; he was a member of the
9 American Academy of Medical Acupuncture; and he was a
10 diplomat of the American Academy of Pain Management; and
11 WHEREAS, Dr. Rumer was a life member of the National
12 Rifle Association; he was a member of the Champaign County
13 Grassroots Committee of the Illinois State Rifle Association;
14 Dr. Rumer was an Eagle Scout and earned the Bronze and Gold
15 Palms at the age of 14; he was an Explorer Scout leader for
16 Arrowhead Council of the Boy Scouts of America; and
17 WHEREAS, Dr. Rumer is survived by his wife, Shirley; his
18 sons, Michael Rumer, David Rumer, Craig Rumer, and Paul
19 Rumer; his stepson, Robert Weddle; his nine grandchildren;
20 and his sister, Evelyn Kramer; therefore, be it
21 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
22 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
23 mourn, along with his family and friends, the death of Dr.
24 Donald G. Rumer; may they find peace in this time of need;
25 and be it further
26 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
27 presented to the family of Dr. Donald Rumer.
