1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate the Illinois State
4 University basketball team on their impressive season; and
5 WHEREAS, The Redbirds had a 25-6 overall record, with a
6 record of 16-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference; school
7 records were set for overall and conference victories; and
8 WHEREAS, The Redbirds won the Missouri Valley Conference
9 regular season championship by four full games, the widest
10 margin since 1986; the sixteen Missouri Valley Conference
11 victories were also the most by any league team since 1986;
12 the Redbirds became the first team to win the Missouri Valley
13 Conference regular season and tournament championships in
14 back-to-back seasons; and
15 WHEREAS, Coach Kevin Stallings was the 1998 Rawlings
16 Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year; Rico Hill was
17 named the 1998 Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year,
18 becoming the first Illinois State player ever to be named;
19 Dan Muller was the 1998 Diet Pepsi Missouri Valley Conference
20 Tournament Most Valuable Player and was a GTE Academic
21 All-American for a second straight year; and
22 WHEREAS, Dan Muller and Skipp Schaefbauer repeated as
23 All-Missouri Valley Conference Academic selections; and
24 WHEREAS, The Redbirds defeated Tennessee in the first
25 round of the NCAA Tournament; the team lost in the second
26 round to the defending national champions of Arizona;
27 Illinois State made its fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA
28 Tournament, a first in the school's history; therefore, be it
29 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
30 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
31 congratulate Illinois State University and the Redbirds

1 basketball team on a winning season; we thank them for
2 representing the State at the NCAA Tournament; and be it
3 further
4 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5 presented to Illinois State University's basketball coach,
6 Kevin Stallings, and the Redbirds.
