1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The House of Representatives of the 90th General
3 Assembly wish to honor John Marshall High School in Chicago,
4 Illinois as they celebrate their one hundredth anniversary;
5 and
6 WHEREAS, John Marshall High School was founded in 1895;
7 John Marshall has become a part of Chicago's rich and valued
8 history; it has developed into an institution associated with
9 the City's diversity and tradition; and
10 WHEREAS, Alumni of John Marshall High School have
11 included Arthur Agee, one of the stars of the nationally
12 known documentary "Hoop Dreams"; Admiral Hyman Rickover,
13 inventor of the nuclear submarine; Shelton Skolnick, world
14 famous conductor; actor Stan Shaw; former New England Patriot
15 and head of the Darryl Stingley Foundation Darryl Stingley;
16 George Wilson, a former Chicago Bulls basketball player and
17 alumni of Marshall's 1958 and 1960 State basketball
18 championship teams; and Dorothy Gaters, presently Marshall's
19 girls basketball coach, and the State coach with the most
20 wins in girls or boys basketball; and
21 WHEREAS, Graduates of John Marshall High School continue
22 to present themselves as standard bearers of the past;
23 through their artistic, athletic, and academic achievements,
24 students of John Marshall strive to uphold the legacy of the
25 founders from one hundred years ago; therefore, be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
28 salute John Marshall High School in Chicago, Illinois as they
29 celebrate one hundred years of teaching Chicago's young
30 people; and as they gather on Saturday, June 21, 1997 to
31 remember the past and prepare for the future, we wish them
32 continued good memories; and be it further

1 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
2 presented to John Marshall High School and the Alumni
3 Coalition.
