1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Club, both locally and
3 internationally, is recognized for its work within the
4 community; from their work with youth, Kiwanis International
5 is known for setting high goals and achieving those goals;
6 and
7 WHEREAS, When a local Kiwanis Club reaches their fiftieth
8 anniversary, it is a time of celebration and reflection; and
9 WHEREAS, The Greenville, Illinois Kiwanis Club recently
10 celebrated their fiftieth anniversary on Sunday, March 2,
11 1997; the group met together at the Armington Center, located
12 on the Greenville College campus, for a special dinner with
13 special guest speaker Robert Hall, the Illinois-Eastern Iowa
14 district governor; and
15 WHEREAS, Three of the original charter members, Frank
16 Joy, Harold Wright, and William Dawdy, were recognized and
17 presented fifty year certificates and pins; widows of past
18 charter members were also recognized in a tribute presided
19 over by past president Gerald Jenner; and
20 WHEREAS, The Hixon Award was presented to past president
21 and past district lieutenant governor Dale Schaufelberger;
22 the award is a recognition of service to the community and
23 caring for individuals; and
24 WHEREAS, The anniversary dinner was attended by the
25 recently organized Builders Club at the Sorento School in
26 Sorento, Illinois; Principal Bambi Leitschuh; Vonda Varner,
27 treasurer; Jenny Enloe, secretary; and Rebecka Hahs,
28 president were all present to receive the charter for the
29 club along with a banner, presented by Kiwanis Club advisor
30 Fred Baumberger; and
31 WHEREAS, A letter of congratulations from Gerald P.

1 Christiano, President of Kiwanis International, was read to
2 the members and guests in attendance; and
3 WHEREAS, Governor Robert Hall stated that the Greenville
4 organization was the 2,866th club chartered by Kiwanis
5 International, and that the club had provided five district
6 lieutenant governors during the past fifty years; and
7 WHEREAS, Several Legion of Honor members were honored for
8 their years of service to the Greenville Kiwanis Club: Marion
9 Jenner and Phil Schildknecht were honored for forty-five
10 years of service; I.D. Baker, Leonard Keillor, Oliver Stowe,
11 Frank Thompson, and Elliott Wiegand were honored for
12 thirty-five years of service; and Leavitt Allen, Robert
13 Ambrose, Ray Davis, and John Ferrill were recognized for
14 twenty-five years of service; therefore, be it
15 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
17 commend the Greenville, Illinois Kiwanis Club for fifty years
18 of service to their community and surrounding communities;
19 and be it further
20 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21 presented to the Greenville Kiwanis Club.
