| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of James Mantice, who passed away at the age |
| 4 | | of 92; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, James Mantice served as a United States Army |
| 6 | | combat infantryman with the 102nd division in Germany, where he |
| 7 | | was awarded the Bronze Star; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, James Mantice spent 40 years in advertising; he |
| 9 | | told friends that his proudest moment was the day he severed |
| 10 | | all ties with a popular cigarette account on the grounds that |
| 11 | | tobacco was a "toxic and nasty business"; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, James Mantice was devoted to his family, books, |
| 13 | | and the study of Haiku; his first two volumes made their way to |
| 14 | | Haiku circles in Japan, where they were warmly received; he was |
| 15 | | a member of the St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, James Mantice was preceded in death by his |
| 17 | | brother, Tom and his sister, Ann; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, James Mantice is survived by his wife, Mimi; his |
| 19 | | son, Peter; his sister, Bess Mermigas; his stepchildren, Greg |
| 20 | | and Lynne Tipsword, David and Diane Rosso, Matthew Rosso, John |
