| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Dr. Paul Michael Green of Chicago, who | ||||||
| 4 | passed away on September 10, 2016, at the age of 73; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Dr. Green served as the Arthur Rubloff Professor | ||||||
| 6 | of Policy Studies at Roosevelt University
from 1999 to 2016, | ||||||
| 7 | educating thousands of students during his tenure, and hiring | ||||||
| 8 | every member of the
current Department of Political Science and | ||||||
| 9 | Public Administration at the University; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, In 2005, Dr. Green founded the Institute of | ||||||
| 11 | Politics at Roosevelt University, a non-partisan
political | ||||||
| 12 | research center that presented unbiased analysis of State and | ||||||
| 13 | local elections in Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Dr. Green was a legendary political commentator, | ||||||
| 15 | expressing his views on local, national,
and global political | ||||||
| 16 | issues, and frequently quoted in local, national, and worldwide | ||||||
| 17 | media; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Dr. Green was a fixture on the Chicago political | ||||||
| 19 | landscape; he served as a political analyst for
WGN Radio, | ||||||
| 20 | guest columnist for Crain's Chicago Business and the Daily | ||||||
| 21 | Herald, and was the author of
several books and articles on | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | Illinois and Chicago politics; and | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Dr. Green served the City Club of Chicago, a civic | ||||||
| 3 | organization that provides a forum for the
discussion of public | ||||||
| 4 | affairs in metropolitan Chicago and the State of Illinois; he | ||||||
| 5 | served as the City Club Governor and Treasurer for more than 25 | ||||||
| 6 | years, and as Chairman since 2011; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Dr. Green served as Monee Township Supervisor from | ||||||
| 8 | 1977 to 1983; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Dr. Green received his Bachelor of Arts in History | ||||||
| 10 | and Political Science at the University of Illinois and his
| ||||||
| 11 | Master of Arts and Ph.D. at the University of Chicago; and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Dr. Green was preceded in death by his son, | ||||||
| 13 | Robert; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Dr. Green is survived by his wife of 47 years, | ||||||
| 15 | Sharon, and his daughter, Sarah; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Dr. Green will be deeply missed and remembered for | ||||||
| 17 | his tremendous collegiality, generous
heart, and political wit | ||||||
| 18 | and wisdom by infinite numbers of colleagues, students, and | ||||||
| 19 | alumni from
Roosevelt University and throughout the city and | ||||||
| 20 | State; therefore, be it
| ||||||

| 1 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 2 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 3 | "Chicago political legend" Dr. Paul Michael Green, and extend | ||||||
| 4 | our sincere
condolences to his family, friends, and all who | ||||||
| 5 | knew and loved him; and be it further
| ||||||
| 6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 7 | presented to the family of Dr. Green as an expression of our | ||||||
| 8 | deepest sympathy.
