SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Jacob Manning Schmitz, who passed away on June 13, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Jacob Schmitz was a junior at Brother Rice High School; he previously graduated as valedictorian from St. Christina with the class of 2013; he was a proud Edmund Rice Scholar and earned superior honors with a GPA of over 4.7 and an ACT score of 32 on his first attempt; he planned to study engineering and medicine at a top university after graduation; and

WHEREAS, Jacob Schmitz served as student council secretary for the 2015-2016 school year and was the only junior elected to the executive board; in April of 2016, he was proud to be elected student council president for 2016-2017; he was a member of the National Honor Society and volunteered as a counselor at Blessed Edmund Rice Camp; he was also selected for and attended several leadership conferences throughout the United States; and

WHEREAS, Jacob Schmitz loved snow skiing, jet-skiing, and watersports and earned his boating license at the age of 12; he also loved the beaches in Michigan, traveling, and attending Greenwoods Camp in Michigan each summer; and

WHEREAS, Jacob Schmitz was preceded in death by his grandmother, Patricia; and

WHEREAS, Jacob Schmitz was the beloved son of Leo Schmitz and Ellyn Weiss Schmitz; the best friend and grandson of Leo "Gerard" Schmitz; the cherished grandson of Ben (Maureen) Weiss and Suzanne (Dr. John) Weiss; and the adored nephew and cousin of many; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Jacob Manning Schmitz; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jacob Schmitz as an expression of our sympathy.
