SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Ralph B. Smith Sr. of Rock Island, who 
4passed away on April 27, 2016; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Ralph Smith Sr. was born in Burnside, Kentucky to 
6Fred and Ruth (Kelsey) Smith on March 28, 1926; he served in 
7the United States Army during World War II and married Louellen 
8Gardner in Louisville, Kentucky on January 28, 1950; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Ralph Smith Sr. was an engineer for the American 
10Air Filter Company in Moline; he retired in 1985 after 30 years 
11of service; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Ralph Smith Sr. was a member of South Park 
13Presbyterian Church and the Blackhawk Hiking Club; he was a 
14volunteer tax preparer for AARP and a volunteer driver for 
15Meals on Wheels; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, Ralph Smith Sr. was preceded in death by his wife, 
17Louellen; his parents; and his sister, Joanne Wilson; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, Ralph Smith Sr. is survived by his children, 
19Kathryn (Charles) Schoaf, Jeanne Gardner, and Ralph Smith Jr.; 
20his grandchildren, Kristina Cobo and Caroline Willett; and his

1great-grandchildren, Trevor Cobo and Lily Willett; therefore, 
2be it
  
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL 
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
5Ralph B. Smith Sr., and extend our sincere condolences to his 
6family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it 
7further
  
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9presented to  the family of  Ralph Smith Sr. as an expression of 
10our deepest sympathy.
