| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Ordwin A. "Rocky" Schoenrock of |
| 4 | | Springfield, who passed away on September 2, 2015; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Ordwin Schoenrock was born in Wilton Township, |
| 6 | | Minnesota on May 30, 1922 to Otto and Magdalena Schoenrock; he |
| 7 | | served in the United States Navy as a sonarman on the Destroyer |
| 8 | | Escort USS Inch during World War II; he also served as an |
| 9 | | interpreter for German sailors captured after the sinking of |
| 10 | | the U490 German submarine in the North Atlantic in June of |
| 11 | | 1944; he married Evelyn Brewer on April 10, 1954; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, After the war, Ordwin Schoenrock attended the |
| 13 | | American Academy of Art School in Chicago; he then moved to |
| 14 | | Springfield to work as display advertising director for the |
| 15 | | S.A. Barker Co. and as sign designer for the Sheehan Sign |
| 16 | | Company; in 1959, he was employed by the State Journal-Register |
| 17 | | as an advertising artist; and

| 18 | | WHEREAS, In 1969, Ordwin Schoenrock began a series of local |
| 19 | | and area church paintings that were published on Christmas Day |
| 20 | | each year for over 20 years; over 20 church paintings are on |
| 21 | | display at the State Journal-Register; and
