| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Louis A. "Lou" Baron, who passed away on |
| 4 | | June 19, 2015; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Lou Baron was born in Toledo, Ohio on April 13, |
| 6 | | 1918; he graduated from Manley High School in Chicago in 1937; |
| 7 | | he joined the United States Army in 1940 and fought in the |
| 8 | | European Theater, earning the Bronze Star for bravery; he |
| 9 | | married Mary Waldman on March 14, 1943 and was discharged from |
| 10 | | the Army in 1945; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Lou Baron returned to Chicago after the war and |
| 12 | | began working at the Centennial Laundry Company; in 1952, he |
| 13 | | founded the City Scrap Iron Company, which he later sold and |
| 14 | | then repurchased in 2011; he founded the Acme Refining Company |
| 15 | | in 1973 with one truck and 2 employees and it has grown into a |
| 16 | | company with 450 employees and $400 million in sales; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Affectionately known to many as "Papa Lou", Lou |
| 18 | | Baron was still showing up to work in his 90s telling people |
| 19 | | what they were doing wrong; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Lou Baron received the Recycler of the Year Award |
| 21 | | in 2008 from the Illinois Recycling Association; and
