| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of William L. Carter, who passed away on |
| 4 | | June 21, 2015; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, William Carter was born in Louisville, |
| 6 | | Mississippi on March 15, 1939 and raised by his mother, Burnise |
| 7 | | Byrd and his stepfather, Jack Byrd; he attended Tougaloo |
| 8 | | College and joined the United States Army, serving from 1960 to |
| 9 | | 1967; after his service, he graduated from Chicago State |
| 10 | | University with a Bachelor of Science in Education; he then |
| 11 | | attended graduate school at Governor's State University; he |
| 12 | | married Pearlene in October of 1964; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, William Carter first worked as a teacher for the |
| 14 | | Chicago Public Schools system; he then worked for the Chicago |
| 15 | | Transit Authority, retiring in 1999 after 25 years of service; |
| 16 | | and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, William Carter enjoyed traveling with his wife and |
| 18 | | fulfilling his grandpa "duties"; he was an active member of |
| 19 | | Sheldon Heights Church of Christ for over 40 years; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, William Carter was preceded in death by his |
| 21 | | mother, Burnise Byrd; his stepfather, Jack Byrd; and his |
