| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Alice Christine Saudargas; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Alice Saudargas was born on May 18, 1916 in |
| 5 | | Fairdale; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Alice Saudargas graduated with a master's degree |
| 7 | | in education from Northern Illinois University; while there, |
| 8 | | she met her husband, Alex Saudargas; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Alice Saudargas worked as a special education |
| 10 | | teacher before becoming principal of Elmwood Center, a school |
| 11 | | for emotionally disturbed children; she retired from the school |
| 12 | | district in 1986; during her career, she led committees to help |
| 13 | | make the Rockford schools more inclusive of all children and to |
| 14 | | maintain the legacy of West High School; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Alice Saudargas was the oldest serving school |
| 16 | | board member in the State of Illinois; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Alice Saudargas was honored by the City of |
| 18 | | Rockford in 2011 with an "Alice Saudargas Day" for her lifelong |
| 19 | | contributions and commitment to Rockford, education, and |
| 20 | | children; and
