SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of William Earl Wharton of Woodstock, who 
4passed away on November 19, 2014; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, William Wharton was born in Chester on October 18, 
61917 to James G. and Edith (nee Katzmark) Wharton; he attended 
7Lane Tech High School in Chicago; after graduation, he earned 
8his pilot's license and joined the United States Army; he was 
9first stationed stateside with an artillery unit and then sent 
10to North Africa with the 36th Infantry Division from Texas; he 
11flew several reconnaissance missions in North Africa and 
12participated in the invasion of Italy with the 36th Infantry 
13Division; he also helped to liberate the Mauthausen-Gusen 
14concentration camp in Austria; he married Dorothy May Stahlberg 
15on July 8, 1946; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, After the war, William Wharton worked for Admiral 
17and then Union Special as a quality control inspector; and
  
 
  
18    WHEREAS, William Wharton was preceded in death by his 
19parents; his wife, Dorothy; his son, William Wharton; his 
20brother, James Wharton; and his sister, Clarice Owen; and
  
 
21    WHEREAS, William Wharton is survived by his son, Timothy

1Wharton; his 2 daughters, Kathleen (Don) Bennett and Sharon 
2(Al) Emery; his 11 grandchildren, Beth Ann, Amanda, Kyle, 
3William Sevcik, Suzanne Robinson, Rachael, Amy, Elise, Linda 
4Kay Harner, Michael Harner, and Andrew Emery; and several 
5great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
  
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL 
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
8William Earl Wharton, and extend our sincere condolences to his 
9family, his friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it 
10further
  
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
12presented to the family of William Wharton as an expression of 
13our deepest sympathy.
