| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of William Earl Wharton of Woodstock, who |
| 4 | | passed away on November 19, 2014; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, William Wharton was born in Chester on October 18, |
| 6 | | 1917 to James G. and Edith (nee Katzmark) Wharton; he attended |
| 7 | | Lane Tech High School in Chicago; after graduation, he earned |
| 8 | | his pilot's license and joined the United States Army; he was |
| 9 | | first stationed stateside with an artillery unit and then sent |
| 10 | | to North Africa with the 36th Infantry Division from Texas; he |
| 11 | | flew several reconnaissance missions in North Africa and |
| 12 | | participated in the invasion of Italy with the 36th Infantry |
| 13 | | Division; he also helped to liberate the Mauthausen-Gusen |
| 14 | | concentration camp in Austria; he married Dorothy May Stahlberg |
| 15 | | on July 8, 1946; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, After the war, William Wharton worked for Admiral |
| 17 | | and then Union Special as a quality control inspector; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, William Wharton was preceded in death by his |
| 19 | | parents; his wife, Dorothy; his son, William Wharton; his |
| 20 | | brother, James Wharton; and his sister, Clarice Owen; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, William Wharton is survived by his son, Timothy |
