SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Rev. Roger H. Olson of Woodstock, who passed away on December 6, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Olson was born in Altona on November 5, 1928 to Harry and Ruth (nee Nelson) Olson; he served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1956, spending 20 months stationed in Nagoya, Japan; he married Diane Hidebrands on February 23, 1963; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Olson received a bachelor's degree in animal husbandry from Iowa State in 1954 and went on to a career in farming in the Altona area and in McHenry County; he received a Master of Divinity from Augustana College and went on to serve in many churches; he served as pastor at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Centralia, from 1966 until 1971; as pastor at Nativity Lutheran Church, Wonder Lake, 1971-1994; as interim pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church, Harvard, 1994-1995; as interim pastor at Salem Lutheran Church, Sycamore, 1995; as associate pastor and interim pastor at Light of Christ, Algonquin, 1995-2000; and as interim pastor at Grace Lutheran Church, Woodstock, 2001-2002; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Olson was preceded in death by his wife, Diane; his brother, Sam Olson; his sister, Ruby Kimmelshue; and his parents; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Olson is survived by his 4 daughters, Terese D. (Peter) Paulson, Ruby D. (Bob) Gross, Dr. Maria D. (Jason) Mallory, and Janel R. (Joe) Bottalla; his 3 grandchildren, Hannah and Phillip Paulson and Joseph R. Bottalla; and his 2 brothers, Max Olson and Harley Olson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Rev. Roger H. Olson, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Rev. Olson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
