SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Johnnie Horton Jackson, who passed away on February 22, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Johnnie Jackson was born in Bolivar, Tennessee on October 31, 1922 to Elizabeth Bills and Sydney Horton; she moved to Chicago with her daughter and continued her education, becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse; she married Harry T. Jackson on December 3, 1966; and

WHEREAS, Johnnie Jackson worked for St. Francis Hospital in Evanston for 35 years in the nursery and neonatal units; and

WHEREAS, Johnnie Jackson was a member of Christ Universal Temple for over 50 years; she enjoyed traveling across the United States and to many foreign countries; she also enjoyed shopping, sitting out on the patio during the summer, talking with her neighbors, and learning to play the trumpet; and

WHEREAS, Johnnie Jackson was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Benjamin Lubin; her grandson, Dwain Lubin; and her sister and brother-in-law, Garland and James Mann, Sr.; and

WHEREAS, Johnnie Jackson is survived by her granddaughter, Dr. Niva Lubin-Johnson (Joseph Johnson); her nephew, James Mann, Jr.; her niece, Sybil (Peter) Mitchell; her special nieces, Patricia (Donnie) Jackson-McDaniel, Deborah (Robert) Simmons, June DuPree, and Stephanie McCullum; her cousins, John Roberts, Mortigue Walker, and Andrew Walker; and her great-nieces and great-nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Johnnie Horton Jackson, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Johnnie Jackson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
