| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Maurice Zeiger Roy, formerly of Clayton, |
| 4 | | who passed away on November 25, 2014; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Maurice Roy was born in Concord Township on |
| 6 | | January 12, 1926 to John R. and Alvesta M. Zeiger Roy; he |
| 7 | | attended Hazel Dell Country School and graduated from Clayton |
| 8 | | High School in 1944; he married Anita M. Lierly on June 22, |
| 9 | | 1947 in Quincy; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Maurice Roy worked as a grain and livestock |
| 11 | | farmer; he also served as road commissioner of Concord Township |
| 12 | | for 36 years; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Maurice Roy received the Grass Roots Award for |
| 14 | | longtime dedication and service to the Adams County Democrat |
| 15 | | Party in 1993; he was also the precinct committeeman for |
| 16 | | Concord Township for many years; and |
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Maurice Roy was a member of the Clayton Christian |
| 18 | | Church, the Clayton Lions Club, the National Farmers |
| 19 | | Organization, and the Adams County Olde Tyme Association; he |
| 20 | | was one of the first tractor pullers in the area and was given |
| 21 | | the nickname "Green Blood" for his love of Oliver tractors; he |

| 1 | | also enjoyed going to local livestock auctions and local sales; |
| 2 | | he enjoyed playing the banjo and was a member of the Buggy |
| 3 | | Wheel Opry, which played at many nursing homes and festivals in |
| 4 | | the area; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Maurice Roy was preceded in death by his parents; |
| 6 | | his 2 sisters, Roberta (Dick) Busen and Joan (Maurice) Brady; |
| 7 | | his brother, John W. Roy; his nephew, Robert Brady; his niece, |
| 8 | | Ann Busby; his in-laws, Frank and Jessie Lierly; and his loyal |
| 9 | | friend and helper, Mike Ellison; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Maurice Roy is survived by his wife of 67 years, |
| 11 | | Anita; his 3 daughters, Cheryl (Delmer) Schlueter, Nancy (Joe) |
| 12 | | Liesen, and Becky Barlow (Jim Kindhart); his 4 grandchildren, |
| 13 | | Angie (Brent) Ufkes, David Schlueter, Jessie Barlow, and |
| 14 | | Clayton Barlow; his 3 great-grandchildren, Ashley (Dillon) |
| 15 | | Darbyshire, Austin Ufkes, and Addison Ufkes; her 2 |
| 16 | | great-great-grandchildren, Holton and Owen Darbyshire; his |
| 17 | | sister, Rosemary (James) Moore; his brother, James (Mara) Roy; |
| 18 | | and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, |
| 19 | | be it

| 20 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
| 21 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 22 | | Maurice Zeiger Roy, and extend our sincere condolences to his |
| 23 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
