SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Maurice Zeiger Roy, formerly of Clayton, who passed away on November 25, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Maurice Roy was born in Concord Township on January 12, 1926 to John R. and Alvesta M. Zeiger Roy; he attended Hazel Dell Country School and graduated from Clayton High School in 1944; he married Anita M. Lierly on June 22, 1947 in Quincy; and

WHEREAS, Maurice Roy worked as a grain and livestock farmer; he also served as road commissioner of Concord Township for 36 years; and

WHEREAS, Maurice Roy received the Grass Roots Award for longtime dedication and service to the Adams County Democrat Party in 1993; he was also the precinct committeeman for Concord Township for many years; and

WHEREAS, Maurice Roy was a member of the Clayton Christian Church, the Clayton Lions Club, the National Farmers Organization, and the Adams County Olde Tyme Association; he was one of the first tractor pullers in the area and was given the nickname "Green Blood" for his love of Oliver tractors; he also enjoyed going to local livestock auctions and local sales; he enjoyed playing the banjo and was a member of the Buggy Wheel Opry, which played at many nursing homes and festivals in the area; and

WHEREAS, Maurice Roy was preceded in death by his parents; his 2 sisters, Roberta (Dick) Busen and Joan (Maurice) Brady; his brother, John W. Roy; his nephew, Robert Brady; his niece, Ann Busby; his in-laws, Frank and Jessie Lierly; and his loyal friend and helper, Mike Ellison; and

WHEREAS, Maurice Roy is survived by his wife of 67 years, Anita; his 3 daughters, Cheryl (Delmer) Schlueter, Nancy (Joe) Liesen, and Becky Barlow (Jim Kindhart); his 4 grandchildren, Angie (Brent) Ufkes, David Schlueter, Jessie Barlow, and Clayton Barlow; his 3 great-grandchildren, Ashley (Dillon) Darbyshire, Austin Ufkes, and Addison Ufkes; her 2 great-great-grandchildren, Holton and Owen Darbyshire; his sister, Rosemary (James) Moore; his brother, James (Mara) Roy; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Maurice Zeiger Roy, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Maurice Roy as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
