| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of John |
| 4 | | Walsh D'Arcy III, who passed away on August 23, 2016 at the age |
| 5 | | of 90; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III was born in Joliet; his parents |
| 7 | | were Verna and John D'Arcy; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III attended St. Raymond's in Joliet |
| 9 | | and St. Thomas Military Academy in St. Paul before serving in |
| 10 | | the United States Navy as a bombardier during World War II; |
| 11 | | after his honorable discharge, he attended the University of |
| 12 | | St. Thomas in St. Paul; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III was an active member of St. Mary |
| 14 | | Immaculate Catholic Church in Plainfield, where he served on |
| 15 | | various boards supporting the growth of the church and school; |
| 16 | | his voice was familiar to daily communicants as he regularly |
| 17 | | lectured and sang at the morning Masses; he was actively |
| 18 | | involved in and a member of the boards of the Joliet Franciscan |
| 19 | | Sisters and Catholic Charities; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III began his career in banking with |
| 21 | | the Pullman Bank in Chicago, where he was instrumental in |
|

| 1 | | initiating the Illinois Bank Charge before it was merged into |
| 2 | | the VISA brand; his integrity, drive, and experience caught the |
| 3 | | interest of several Joliet businessmen, who recruited him to |
| 4 | | lead the founding of Heritage Bank and Trust in 1971; he made |
| 5 | | various investments, including in the founding of |
| 6 | | International Games, distributor of the popular card game UNO, |
| 7 | | which enabled him to later realize his true lifelong ambitions |
| 8 | | of driving tractors and farming; after retirement, he purchased |
| 9 | | various farms and operated them with his sons; he also founded |
| 10 | | JJD Enterprises and Caton Farms; and |
| 11 | | WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III and his wife actively served the |
| 12 | | communities of Plainfield and Joliet; he was President of the |
| 13 | | Joliet Rotary Club, a Plainfield Village Trustee, a member of |
| 14 | | the Plainfield Library Board, a trustee of the University of |
| 15 | | St. Francis in Joliet, and a longtime benefactor of Lewis |
| 16 | | University in Romeoville; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III was preceded in death by his |
| 18 | | parents; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III is survived by his wife of 67 |
| 20 | | years, Margaret Jeanette; his children, Margaret (Jim) Lacey, |
| 21 | | John (Diane), Kevin (Vicky), Terry (Sue), Patrick (Kathy), |
| 22 | | Candace (Tom) Nielsen, Michael (Beverly), and Tom (Sue); his |
| 23 | | grandchildren, Kristen Corcoran, Scott, Mike, and John Lacey, |

| 9 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 10 | | we, along with his family and friends, celebrate the life and |
| 11 | | countless contributions of John Walsh D'Arcy III; and be it |
| 12 | | further
|
| 13 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 14 | | presented to the family of John D'Arcy III as an expression of |
| 15 | | our sympathy.
