HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulates Ann (Gerber) and Bernard 
4Kaplan on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary on 
5April 23, 2016; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Ann and Bernard Kaplan met at the Edgewater Beach 
7Cabana Club and were married on April 23, 1966 at the 
8Ambassador East Hotel; they settled in Chicago on the Near 
9North Side; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Bernard Kaplan earned his Master of Business Arts 
11from the
Harvard Business School and is the oldest living 
12Harvard Business School graduate in
Chicago; he served as  head 
13of a candy company and also worked in real estate; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Ann Kaplan attended Wright Junior
College, 
15Northwestern University, and Mundelein College, while working 
16as a journalist; she recently retired from more than 65 years 
17of gossip column writing in Chicago, the city's longest,

18continual columnist; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Ann and Bernard Kaplan have traveled to China 
20seven times; they used to travel to Europe every fall, visiting 
21London, Paris,
and Spain; and

1    WHEREAS, Ann Kaplan is currently writing a book; therefore, 
2be it
  
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
4NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
5congratulate Ann and Bernard Kaplan on their 50th wedding 
6anniversary and we wish them many more wonderful years 
7together; and be it further
  
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9presented to Ann and Bernard Kaplan as an expression of our 
10esteem and respect.
