HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Mary Chinn for 
4receiving the "2015 Rural Physician of Excellence Award" from 
5the Illinois Rural Health Association; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, One of the biggest healthcare challenges across 
7our nation is the shortage of physicians who practice in rural 
8settings; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Dr. Chinn graduated from the University of 
10Illinois Medical School in Champaign in 1993; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dr. Chinn went on to complete her residency at 
12Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dr. Chinn is certified by the American Board of 
14Family Medicine; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Dr. Chinn started her medical practice in Mendota 
16in 1996; and
 
17    WHEREAS, When the local hospital discontinued their 
18Obstetric
Department, Dr. Chinn received obstetrical 
19privileges at a hospital
20 miles away so patients in her

1community, many of whom would have difficulty
traveling, could 
2continue to receive care locally; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Dr.  Chinn has a special place in her heart for 
4teenage moms; she has even gone so far as to help them study so 
5they will stay in school and graduate and even collects an 
6array of baby items in her office to offer to those in need; 
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, Dr. Chinn provides a great service to growing 
9families and is  the only physician in the area to offer 
10childhood immunizations; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Dr. Chinn also is very compassionate with her 
12older patients, even performing house calls and comforting 
13their families at visitations after their passing; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Dr. Chinn is a mentor to students going into the 
15medical field and often has student observers and residents, 
16whom she encourages to practice in rural areas; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Dr. Chinn's talents are not limited to the medical 
18field; she has a flair for fashion and is a featured model in 
19the Illinois Hospice Style Show every year; therefore, be it
  
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

1NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
2thank Dr. Chinn for the selfless service she has provided the 
3residents of Mendota for the past 20 years and the impact she 
4has made on multiple generations of its residents; and be it 
5further
  
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
7presented to Dr. Chinn as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
