HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former 
4Springfield Mayor Ossie Langfelder, who passed away on October 
521, 2015; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Ossie Langfelder was a native of Austria; he fled 
7during World War II and came to America in 1940 with his 
8parents, Otto and Ruth Marie, and his sister, Edith Raven; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Ossie Langfelder served 8 years as Springfield's 
10streets commissioner; he was mayor from 1987 to 1995, the first 
118 years after Springfield city government changed from the 
12commission form to the mayor-aldermanic form; and
  
 
  
13    WHEREAS, Ossie Langfelder published a book about his life 
14titled "My Incredible Journey", chronicling his early years 
15when his family escaped from Austria during World War II; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, Ossie Langfelder and his wife, Mary "Midge", had 
1713 children together; therefore, be it
  
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
19NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
20mourn the passing of former Springfield Mayor Ossie Langfelder,

1and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and 
2all who knew and loved him; and be it further
  
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
4presented to  the family of  Ossie Langfelder as an expression of 
5our deepest sympathy.
