HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of  Marquis 
4Mitchell, who passed away on August 9, 2015; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Marquis Mitchell was born on March 12, 1983 in 
6Chicago; he received his primary education at Herbert Spencer 
7Elementary School and his secondary education at William J. 
8Bogan High School; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Marquis Mitchell enjoyed playing basketball and 
10video games, his Air Jordan shoes, taking photos showing off 
11his "kicks of the day", visiting the barbershop to debate his 
12favorite pastime, and spending time with his family and 
13friends; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Marquis Mitchell worked diligently at Edna's Soul 
15Food Restaurant; under the tutelage of his grandmother and his 
16father, he developed excellent cooking skills and wished to 
17carry on the legacy as a chef; he also worked as a paratransit 
18driver for 2 years; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Marquis Mitchell was preceded in death by his 
20sister, Atlantis Cafe' Andrews, and his grandmother, Edna L. 
21Stewart; and

1    WHEREAS, Marquis Mitchell is survived by his parents, Diane 
2A. Harvey and Melvin Mitchell, Sr. (Chaunee); 3 brothers, 
3Darryl L. Andrews, Jr., Matthew (LaQuita) Mitchell, and Melvin 
4Mitchell, Jr. (Irene); a grandmother, Eloise Harvey; a 
5grandfather, James Walker; 4 aunts, Marguerite Banks, 
6Katherine Harvey-Stevenson (John), Patricia Harvey, and 
7Alderman Helen Harris; 7 uncles, Elroy (Vonda) Smith, Lee 
8Miles, Jr., Marcus M. Miles, Kenny R. Harvey, Louis (Lo) 
9Harvey, Jr., Jaron Walker, and Roosevelt Walker; his 
10great-aunts, the Hon. Judge Judy I. Mitchell-Davis (retired), 
11Wilada Harvey, Alice (Ron) McCammon, Stella Mayes, Bessie 
12Miles, Edna Nuell, Annie Reese, and Sadie Seals; 3 
13great-uncles, O.B. Harvey, Samuel W. Mitchell, Jr. (Loretta), 
14and Eugene Seals, Sr. (Mazora); 2 two nephews, Avante' Andrews 
15and Monte Mitchell; a niece, Candace Mitchell; his extended 
16family members, Candace (Leroy) Cox, Armani, Clarence, Malik, 
17Michael, and Vincent Hastings, Lashawn Smith, and Sharlisa 
18Smith; and his many dear friends; therefore, be it
  
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
20NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
21we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of 
22Marquis Mitchell; and be it further
  
 
23    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
