| 2 | | WHEREAS, The Illinois State Board of Education first |
| 3 | | required the Partnership for
Assessment of Readiness for |
| 4 | | College and Careers (PARCC) assessment to be
administered to |
| 5 | | Illinois students as the official State assessment during the |
| 6 | | 2014-2015
school year; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Other assessments are routinely administered in |
| 8 | | districts and in individual
schools and classrooms; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Responsible assessments allow us to determine |
| 10 | | year-over-year and intra-year
growth of all students, and |
| 11 | | important tranches such as low-income students, students of
|
| 12 | | color, special needs students, and English learners; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, In many districts the combined in-district and |
| 14 | | State testing burden has led to
a detrimental loss of |
| 15 | | instructional time for our students and teachers; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, We should seek to reduce the number of summative |
| 17 | | tests annually in order
to facilitate instructional time and |
| 18 | | maximize the effectiveness or assessments
administered; |
| 19 | | therefore, be it
