| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. Kelly Stewart on the | ||||||
| 4 | occasion of her retirement as Superintendent of Benton | ||||||
| 5 | Consolidated High School; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Dr. Kelly Stewart grew up in Benton and graduated | ||||||
| 7 | from Benton Consolidated High School; she subsequently | ||||||
| 8 | attended Rend Lake College and completed her bachelor's degree | ||||||
| 9 | at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, where she later | ||||||
| 10 | earned her master's degree in curriculum and instruction and | ||||||
| 11 | her doctorate in educational administration; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Dr. Kelly Stewart began her career at Vienna | ||||||
| 13 | Junior High as a math teacher, where she also coached girls | ||||||
| 14 | basketball and softball, leading both teams to awards at the | ||||||
| 15 | State level; she eventually moved to administration as | ||||||
| 16 | Assistant Principal of Harrisburg High School and served as one | ||||||
| 17 | of the first female athletic directors in Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, After serving as Principal at Carterville, Dr. | ||||||
| 19 | Kelly Stewart became Superintendent of Benton Consolidated | ||||||
| 20 | High School, where she has been an innovative leader and has | ||||||
| 21 | brought new technology, programs, and advanced curriculums to | ||||||
| 22 | students in times of financial and budget hardships; and | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | WHEREAS, Dr. Kelly Stewart is well known and respected in | ||||||
| 2 | the community, serving on the Benton/West City Economic | ||||||
| 3 | Development Board; she has also worked with the Franklin County | ||||||
| 4 | Board to bring millions of dollars to Benton Consolidated High | ||||||
| 5 | School; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Dr. Kelly Stewart was appointed to the State | ||||||
| 7 | Parent Leadership Council by 2 Illinois Governors; she also | ||||||
| 8 | completed the prestigious Illinois School for Advanced | ||||||
| 9 | Leadership in 2012 and was named the 2014 Superintendent of the | ||||||
| 10 | Year for the State of Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, After more than 20 years in school administration | ||||||
| 12 | serving in a variety of roles in the Southern Illinois | ||||||
| 13 | educational system, including as a teacher, principal, coach, | ||||||
| 14 | and athletic director, Dr. Kelly Stewart continues to provide | ||||||
| 15 | mentoring and leadership to new superintendents and educators | ||||||
| 16 | across the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 18 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 19 | congratulate Dr. Kelly Stewart on the occasion of her | ||||||
| 20 | retirement as Superintendent of Benton Consolidated High | ||||||
| 21 | School and wish her the best in all of her future endeavors; | ||||||
| 22 | and be it further
