HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Village of Thomson is located in the Township of York, in the County of Carroll, of the northwestern region of the State of Illinois; Thomson is characterized by its location in the center of a very beautiful valley, hemmed in by the Mississippi River on the west and a high range of bluffs on the east; and

WHEREAS, At this point, the valley is very nearly 4 miles in width between the bluffs and the river, with some of the world's richest agricultural land immediately to the east; and

WHEREAS, The year 2015 has been dedicated to celebrating the 150th year since the Village of Thomson was first settled; and

WHEREAS, The town's name was taken from the personages of 2 Western Union Railroad real estate agents who laid out the town; they later sold the acreage to Noah Green and Norman Dartt French, the area's first settler; and

WHEREAS, On January 12, 1865, the first regular train of cars passed through Thomson, making a stop at the newly constructed Railroad Depot, the second structure in the community; the first structure was a single home on the sand prairie; and

WHEREAS, The Village of Thomson has set aside the dates of July 24 - 26, 2015 to celebrate this significant milestone in the community's history; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the citizens of the Village of Thomson as they celebrate the sesquicentennial of their community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Thomson Village President Vicky Trager as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
