HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. S. Alan Ray on the 
4occasion of his retirement as President of Elmhurst College; 
5and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. Ray became the 13th President of Elmhurst 
7College in July of 2008 and has served for 7 years; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, During Dr. Ray's tenure, Elmhurst College has 
9become stronger academically and enjoys an enhanced reputation 
10and a much wider reach within the student marketplace; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, In addition to being President of Elmhurst 
12College, Dr. Ray has a joint appointment in the political 
13science and religious studies departments, with the  title 
14professor of religion and society; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Dr. Ray is a Harvard-trained student of theology 
16and a scholar of federal Indian law; he has written and taught 
17on religion, philosophy, and Native American issues; in 2010, 
18President Obama appointed him to the National Advisory Council 
19on Indian Education; he is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation;

1    WHEREAS, Dr. Ray will be honored for his service at an 
2event at Elmhurst College on May 11, 2015, and his retirement 
3will be official on June 30, 2015; therefore, be it
  
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
5NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
6congratulate Dr. S. Alan Ray on his retirement as President of 
7Elmhurst College and we wish him the best in all his future 
8endeavors; and be it further
  
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
10presented to Dr. Ray as an expression of our esteem and 
11respect.
