HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly wish 
3to pay honor to those who dedicate their lives to the 
4protection of the people of this State; and

  
 
5    WHEREAS, James Sauter served with pride as an Illinois 
6State Trooper since July 29, 2008; he had just completed a 
7temporary assignment in the State Police Air Operations and was 
8recently assigned to District 15, which covers the tollways; as 
9a cadet, he was awarded the Lifesaving Medal in October of 2008 
10for his actions in saving the life of a woman in a motorcycle 
11accident; and


  
 
12    WHEREAS, On March 28, 2013, Trooper James Sauter was on 
13duty in his Illinois State Police squad car when his vehicle 
14was struck by a truck tractor semi-trailer on Interstate 294 
15southbound at Willow Road; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Trooper James Sauter's great bravery and sense of 
17duty is worthy of the highest respect; it would be fitting for 
18the members of the General Assembly to honor his life and his 
19great sacrifice by naming the Willow Road overpass on 
20Interstate 294 after him; therefore, be it
  
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

1NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE 
2SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the Willow Road 
3overpass on Interstate 294 as the Trooper James Sauter Memorial  
4Overpass; and be it further
  
 
5    RESOLVED, That the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority is 
6requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with State 
7and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs giving 
8notice of the name of the Trooper James Sauter Memorial  
9Overpass; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 
11delivered to the Board of Directors of the Illinois State Toll 
12Highway Authority and the family of James Sauter.
