SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of  James Paul "Jim" Sczepaniak, who passed 
4away on November 9, 2014; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, James Sczepaniak was born on December 1, 1935 in 
6Joliet; his parents were Stanley and Rose (nee Petan) 
7Sczepaniak; he was a lifetime resident of Joliet; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, James Sczepaniak graduated from St. Joseph 
9Catholic Grade School, Joliet Township High School District 204 
10(Class of 1953), and Joliet Junior College; he subsequently 
11received a bachelor's degree from Lewis University and a 
12master's degree from Northern Illinois University; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, James Sczepaniak served his country as a member of 
14the United States Army; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, James Sczepaniak retired after 33 years of 
16dedicated service as a social studies teacher at Lockport 
17Township High School District 205 and Valley View School 
18District 365 U (Romeoville High School); and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, James Sczepaniak took great pride in his civic 
20involvement; he proudly served on the Joliet Public Library

1Board of Trustees for more than 30 years, most recently as 
2President of the Board; he was also an active member of St. 
3Joseph Catholic Church in Joliet, the Holy Name Society of St. 
4Joseph Catholic Church, the St. Joseph Catholic Church Seniors, 
5Oakwood Estates Homeowners Association, and the Illinois 
6Retired Teacher's Association; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, James Sczepaniak enjoyed stamp and coin 
8collecting; he also greatly enjoyed taking pictures and sending 
9them to his many relatives, friends, and acquaintances; and
 
10    WHEREAS, James Sczepaniak was preceded in death by his 
11first wife, Mary Clare (nee Gordon), and his parents; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, James Sczepaniak was the beloved husband of 5 
13years to Frances H. Naal (nee Tures); the loving brother of 
14Lois M. Geary; the brother-in-law of James (Joann) Gordon; the 
15dear uncle of Kim Ann (Wayne) Meirhofer and Steven P. (Shirley 
16Boatman) Geary; he is also survived by his step-children, Meg 
17(Dale) Underwood, Jr., John (Micki) Naal, and Colette Naal and 
18many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, beloved 
19students, and friends; therefore, be it
  
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL 
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his 
22family and friends, mourn the passing of James Paul "Jim"
