| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Kay Leonard Stephens of Naperville, who |
| 4 | | passed away on September 30, 2014; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Kay Stephens was born in LaPorte, Indiana on April |
| 6 | | 7, 1933; she graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, |
| 7 | | Indiana in 1953 with a bachelor's degree in music education; |
| 8 | | she married John Lewis Stephens, and they settled in Naperville |
| 9 | | in 1965; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Kay Stephens and her husband were involved in the |
| 11 | | founding of the Naperville Heritage Society in 1969; when St. |
| 12 | | John's Episcopal Church, the church she was musical director |
| 13 | | at, needed to be moved, the Society found a new location at a |
| 14 | | site now known as the Naper Settlement; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Kay Stephens always kept a busy schedule of |
| 16 | | charitable activities, music, gardening, training dogs, |
| 17 | | helping special-needs children, and raising her family; she |
| 18 | | planned antique shows, hosted Christmas pageants, developed a |
| 19 | | weed garden that is now managed by the Weed Ladies, penned a |
| 20 | | book about Naperville in the 1970s, and created a music |
| 21 | | education program at Little Friends, Inc.; when her husband |
| 22 | | passed, she created a pet education and training scholarship in |
